Rights Group Demands India Arrest Israeli Reservist

(MENAFN) A Brussels-based human rights organization has called on Indian authorities to immediately detain an Israeli military reservist currently believed to be vacationing on Indian soil, alleging his direct involvement in the destruction of civilian infrastructure across the Gaza Strip, according to a statement released Tuesday.

The Hind Rajab Foundation (HRF) confirmed it filed a formal complaint with Indian law enforcement and immigration agencies, demanding the arrest of Eitan Gilboa.

The Indian government had not issued any immediate response to the demand at the time of publication.

HRF alleged that Gilboa — reportedly vacationing across Himachal Pradesh's Old Manali and Gondla villages — served within the Israeli army's 271st Combat Engineering Battalion and was directly involved in the demolition of residential buildings in Gaza during military operations carried out in 2024.

The complaint further alleges that Gilboa recorded and publicly shared footage depicting building demolitions in Khan Younis and Rafah, framing them as acts of retalfire, and subsequently distributed the material across social media platforms. HRF additionally claims he took part in multiple incidents of civilian infrastructure destruction, asserting the acts constitute war crimes under the Geneva Conventions Act, 1960.

The foundation has formally urged India's Ministry of Home Affairs, police, and immigration authorities to detain and prosecute Gilboa, contending that India bears an obligation under international law to act on alleged grave breaches of the Geneva Conventions.

Israel's military campaign in Gaza, launched in October 2023, has killed nearly 73,000 Palestinians and injured more than 173,000 — the majority of them women and children — according to Palestinian figures. Despite a ceasefire that took effect Oct. 10, 2025, the Gaza Media Office reports that the Israeli army has killed 932 Palestinians and injured a further 2,859 in near-daily strikes since the truce came into force.
