European Diplomats Visit West Bank
Last Wednesday, three Palestinians lost their lives and seven others were injured when Israeli settlers invaded Kafr Malik, a town situated northeast of Ramallah, as confirmed by the Palestinian Ministry of Health.
At that time, a Palestinian official news agency reported that dozens of settlers launched an attack on the town, set fire to Palestinian vehicles, and were met with resistance from local inhabitants and residents of nearby villages.
Laila Ghannam, the governor of Ramallah and Al-Bireh, revealed in a statement on her Facebook page that the visiting group consisted of approximately 20 ambassadors and diplomatic officials from the European Union, alongside the ambassadors from Canada and the UK.
The delegation inspected damaged homes and burnt cars, and held meetings with the families of those affected.
Ghannam explained to the diplomats that the attack formed part of “a systematic Israeli policy adopted by the extremist occupation government” headed by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir, and Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich.
She accused the Israeli leadership of “giving full political cover to settler militias as part of a broader strategy to uproot Palestinians from their land.”
Furthermore, Ghannam urged the EU to implement “concrete political action beyond writing reports,” cautioning that the global community’s failure to act has encouraged Israeli forces and illegal settlers, who she described as “two sides of the same coin,” to persist in perpetrating crimes against Palestinians.
